Hundreds of students across the island took part in a week-long initiative to promote and encourage cycling or walking as an alternative to motorised transport.

Active Travel Week at Ballakermeen High School saw students enjoy a healthy breakfast after walking or cycling to school and learn about bike maintenance and sustainable travel.

The week was coordinated by Sustrans, a charity appointed by the Isle of Man Government to deliver its active travel strategy.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer MHK said: ’Initiatives that promote low carbon travel alternatives will go a long way to help achieve the island’s goal of a net zero emission future.

’It will also bring improvements to personal health and wellbeing, increased air quality and reduced congestion in school areas.’
