One of the most original and recognisable contemporary artists in the Isle of Man is to open her latest exhibition in the south this weekend.
Eileen Schaer is to unveil her new display, entitled ’Recent Paintings’, at Studio 42, Bay View Road, Port St Mary, on Sunday (October 20) from 1.30pm.
The exhibition will contain 25 new, original works of art, and will be the first time they have been on display.
Eileen is a world-renowned painter, and has been described as an artist with a powerful and original poetic vision.
Originally from Liverpool, she married the well-known local artist David Fletcher, and both were contemporaries and friends of the late Norman Sayle.
Eileen is a self-taught artist, and her pictures are, on first glances, primitive and bold, child-like images that are rooted in folklore and natural forms, and depict a colourful dreamlike fantasy-like vision world, yet are sophisticated pieces of work.
Her work will be familiar with many in the island, and her previous exhibition, entitled ’Painted Dreams’, which went on display at the House of Mannanan in 2017, proved very popular and was a huge success, coming close to selling out.
’Art for me is about the imagination and working with feelings and emotions,’ said Eileen, recently.
’In a world dominated by mass production I like to produce one-off pieces that represent independence of spirit.’
