Motorcyclists made some noise at Laxey promenade to remember island cyclists who have passed away.
The event took place on Remembrance Sunday where 30 bikes and about 50 people turned up to pay tribute to those who have ’passed under the chequered flag’.
The minute’s noise idea began after a Grand Prix rider was killed during a racing accident on the island. His parents asked for a minute’s noise to remember their son and other motorcyclists who have lost their lives.
Bill Snelling, one of the organisers of the memorial service, has had an interest in motorcycling since he moved to the island at the age of 13.
He said: ’It was quite a successful event. We had a silence and then a minute’s noise before a chequered flag was flown on the beach.
’It’s in memory of any motorcyclist from anywhere and anyone to do with motorcycling.’
Bill would like to say a thank you to the Laxey Beach Kiosk staff, who opened their shop on the day.
