Hospice Isle of Man is calling on the Manx community to clear out their wardrobes and give pre-loved partywear a second chance as it launches a new sustainable fashion event ahead of Christmas.

‘Sparkle for Christmas’ will take place at The Laxey Glen on Thursday, October 29, bringing together pre-loved fashion, sustainability and fundraising.

The evening will feature a fashion show showcasing donated clothing and accessories, followed by a boutique market where guests will be able to shop for pieces for the festive season.

However, Hospice is first asking islanders to help build its collection.

The charity is looking for clean, good-quality eveningwear, occasionwear, partywear, shoes, handbags, jewellery and accessories that are no longer being worn.

Selected items will appear on the runway before being made available to buy at the boutique market, with proceeds helping to fund Hospice care for people and families across the island.

Vanessa Naude, the charity’s donor engagement executive, said the event was designed to combine fundraising with more sustainable fashion choices.

She said: ‘Most of us have something in our wardrobes that we once loved but simply don’t wear any more – a dress bought for one special occasion, a fabulous handbag, a pair of beautiful shoes or accessories that haven’t been out for years.

‘Sparkle is about giving those pieces another life. Instead of sitting unworn, they can be enjoyed by somebody new, help reduce fashion waste and, importantly, raise funds to support Hospice care here on the island.

‘We want the collection to feel special, so we’re asking people to think about the pieces they would genuinely be delighted to discover and buy themselves.’

Donations must be registered through the ‘Sparkle for Christmas’ online donation form before being delivered to any Hospice Isle of Man shop, the Hospice building at Noble’s or the Hospice Superstore.

Businesses are also being encouraged to take part by organising their own workplace collection.

Donations must be registered by Wednesday, October 7, and delivered by Friday, October 9.

Hospice is also looking for volunteer models to take part in the fashion show, with no previous modelling experience required.

Volunteers will wear some of the donated pieces and help demonstrate how pre-loved clothing can be given a new lease of life.

Ms Naude added: ‘We’d love people to get involved in Sparkle in all sorts of ways. You might donate something from your wardrobe, encourage your colleagues to start an office collection, volunteer to model – or come along on the night and discover something fabulous to take home.

‘It’s about the community coming together around a simple idea: fashion that sparkles, and choices that change lives.’

‘We encourage colleagues and the wider community to get involved, whether by donating items, volunteering or attending the event. Every contribution will help to support the invaluable work of Hospice Isle of Man.’

Sparkle for Christmas will run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

Tickets cost £30 and include a glass of fizz on arrival.

Guests will be seated at long, shared tables, with places allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
