The MannKind festival, held at the weekend at Silly Moos, was opened by the newly-appointed Children’s Champion, Tim Baker MHK.
It was an event full of fun, music and activities exclusively for all those with disabilities and their families and it offered a safe, friendly environment as an alternative to those would normally feel overwhelmed by a large public gathering.
Organiser Gerogie Revill whose son, Ollie, is autistic said: ’It all started a year ago when I felt there was not enough being done either in education or socially for those with additional needs, either with learning differences or physical disabilities. Raising a child with additional needs is tough enough never mind the battles you face throughout the school years and beyond.’
The free-to-attend event boasted a wonderful musical line-up which included Marlene & Dilys and The Fecktones performing on the Flo Festival Stage.
About 26 volunteers in all helped the event to run smoothly, manning activities which included glitter tattoos and bracelet making. Robinson’s provided fruit costumes and fruit to give away and Isle of Man Goats brought along their kid goats for petting.
Georgie said: ’The atmosphere was one of pure joy and I would like to give huge thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who helped to make it happen.’
