A freedom of information request has revealed four incidents involving sheep have been recorded on the MER.

The request asked for details about sheep escaping their fields and getting onto the Manx Electric Railway, specifically around Baldrine.

In March 2019, staff were called to deal with sheep on the line and to inspect fencing.

In August that year, staff again were called to sheep on the tracks at Ballabeg near Laxey and they sought to return to their depot to collect materials to repair the fence.

However, the next day sheep were found to have used another escape route which had to be repaired after more of the animals were found on the line.

Despite these attempts, sheep had to be herded up and put back into their field on January 30, of this year leaving workers to locate where they had escaped from.

Further repairs were made on May 5 and since then, there have been no recorded incidents of sheep on the rails at Ballabeg.

The names of people who make freedom of information requests are not released.
