TT and Manx Grand Prix aficionado Bill Snelling will again be sharing some of the more unusual shots from his extensive photograph archive for his latest TT exhibition.
For the 10th year running, he has delved into the depths of his TT Phottofinders collection to find pictures for the latest charity display.
Now a traditional part of the TT and MGP fortnights, the exhibition at the Laxey Woollen Mill’s first floor gallery is free to enter but donations towards the Manx Grand Prix Supporters’ Club charities are welcomed.
’I always say the aim of the exhibition is to amuse, inform and entertain,’ said Mr Snelling, who himself competed in the Manx Grand Prix in the 1970s.
Over the years, the exhibition has raised tens of thousands of pounds.
In addition to the the photographs, there will also be a preview showing of some of the latest prints by motorcycle artist John Hancox.
The exhibition usually features an actual motorcycle on display too and this year, Bonneville competitor Ralf Mitchell has taken on the challenge of hoisting his Royal Enfield upstairs to the gallery.
In fact, the Enfield, a 1960s turbo-charged 250cc machine, will be part of a larger display including photographs, dedicated to his 2016 Bonneville speed record.
’A unique hand-built bike was first designed then fabricated in several workshops across the Island resulting in a turbo-charged 250cc traditional pushrod machine, such as one would have witnessed in the 1960s,’ he said.
’No computers or electronics were used, or rev counter or speedo. The engine was donated by Murray’s Motorcycle Museum and the frame was hand built from tubular steel by Richard Barks and Chris Procter.’
Mr Mitchell and Mr Proctor both achieved records at Bonneville. To reach the exhibition from New Road, Laxey, turn right by the Co-op, opposite the petrol station, and go down the hill. The exhibition is open 9am to 5pm through TT fortnight, May 27 to June 10 including Mad Sunday.
