Whether you want to get your feet wet, your hands dirty or just enjoy learning about the natural world around us, the Manx Wildlife Trust have a range of workshops and sessions designed to help you get the most out of the summer holidays.
The wildlife and conservation trust have announced their ’Wildlife Watch summer season’ programme, which will run throughout the school holidays.
There are 10 courses, running between Thursday, July 26, and Sunday, September 9, taking place all over the island, taking in everything from the sea to the hills, from beaches to marshy wetlands and from mini beasts to lizards.
Dawn Dickens, from the Manx Wildlife Trust, said that this year, they want to cover as much of the natural environment the island has to offer as possible.
’Do your children love getting muddy, love to explore, spend hours watching beetles and ants? Then the Summer Season Pass from Manx Wildlife Trust is just the ticket for a summer of wild adventures, exploration and fun,’ said Dawn.
’So, what do we have to look forward to? How about exploring Claughbane woodlands and joining in our woodland artwork event making tree faces and stick men?
’Or, have you ever explored a peat bog before? They are amazingly bouncy and whilst we are there, we can see incredible insect eating plants.’
Sessions will take in rock pooling at Douglas and Port St Mary, mammal trapping at Cooildarry, where harmless traps will allow children to examine the types of small creatures that live in the area, lizard spotting at the Ayres or bug hunting at Ballaglass glen
’Or we can get splashing in the streams and come face to face with the insects that lurk there,’ said Dawn.
’We just can’t wait for the summer fun to begin here at Manx Wildlife Trust.’
The Wildlife Watch summer season events are only available to summer season pass holders, or Wildlife Watch members.
Summer season passes are £13 per child, and all children must be accompanied by an adult at the events.
