With the current social restrictions putting a halt to the usual Easter festivities and events, many families and communities came up with their own Easter-themed fun.

There was not one but two Easter bunnies spotted hopping around Foxdale over the weekend, as volunteers delivered eggs to all the children who live in the village.

The community gesture was organised by Judith Cusack from the Baltic Inn and the EVF shop and filling station.

A colourful trail appeared around Kirk Michael after Hannah Watson crocheted 60 small flowers and placed them on a 10-mile walk around the countryside surrounding the village.

’I did it last year while we were all in lockdown and I got so many messages from mums and dads saying that it made going for a walk with their children more enjoyable as they all had something to spot,’ said Hannah.

The residents of Maple Avenue, Ballawattleworth, Peel, got together and painted stones to look like Easter eggs, which they then placed around the estate and the Danaher family made a trail of scallop shells through Axnfell plantation to lead their children to a hidden stash of Easter eggs.

Rather than venture outside, the Joughin family in Peel devised a range of indoor activities, the highlight being an Easter egg pinata which their children, Lowrenna and Frank, took turns in hitting to reveal the contents.

Finally, an Easter bunny was seen bouncing her way down Peel promenade.

Summer Sheeley, eight, decided she wanted to get dressed up as the Easter bunny for the day and donned a rabbit suit before heading out to wave at passers-by.

’Summer woke up on Saturday and decided she wanted to be the Easter bunny,’ said mum Roxanne.

’I asked what she fancied doing and she wanted to hit Peel beach. She waved and played Easter Bunny peak-a-boo at every little one we passed who just loved her.’
