A calendar featuring hunks from a northern gym is raising funds for a good cause.

Thirteen men who attend Quayfitness in Ramsey have set themselves the challenge of raising as much as possible for Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity through the sale of their Fit Fellas O’ Mann 2020 calendar.

The calendar, which will feature different locations of the island including the chasms near Cregneash and Castletown harbour, will be out on sale in November.

Ralfy Mitchell, who lives in Glen Mona and is the organiser of the project, told the Examiner about the idea,

’We were having a discussion at the gym on what’s the best way to get in shape for summer,’ he said.

’The best way is to have a goal to keep you motivated where you can have a laugh along the way. There have been hunky calendars done in the island before and they’ve been very successful.

’We went around the gym and asked people if they want to take part.

’We chose to support a local charity, Naseem’s Brain Tumour Charity, as one of our "hunks" has benefited from their support for his young daughter.

’There will be no nakedness, only hunkiness. The men will be wearing shorts or long trousers. We’re mindful that it’s for a children’s charity.’

Their aim is to sell about 500 A3 calendars at the price of £10 with all funds going to the charity.

He said: ’It’s out of everybody’s comfort zone.

’We’ve got only one professional model, Tony Foster, who’s got experience for this as he’s worked for clothing company Hollister.

’The rest of us are slightly nervous enthusiasts.’

The photoshoots have already begun during the warmer climate with one or two men featuring for the different months.

The most recent shoot was this weekend with the men gathering for the big ’Christmas with sexy-santa and his little helpers’ feature.

’The Groudle Glen Railway has been supportive in giving us access and having a hunk on a steam train,’ Mr Mitchell added. ’Manninkilts at Laxey Woolen Mills has also sponsored kilts for the shoots and local photographer Vasil Hristov of VH Pixels Photography is taking the photos.’

Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity provides direction for sufferers and their families on where to find financial support for their condition and information about brain tumours while giving financial assistance through a grant application process.

It also supports national research into brain tumours and other brain tumour charities in the UK.

This was set up after Naseem, a former Ballakermeen High School student, died in 2009 after being diagnosed with a Glioblastoma grade 4 multiforme at Walton Neuro Centre in Liverpool.
