Positive Action Group (PAG) is screening a documentary telling how Britain transformed itself from an imperial to a global financial power through a global network of offshore jurisdictions.

’The Spider’s Web - Britain’s Second Empire’ will be shown at the Manx Museum theatre in Douglas on Monday, November 13, with screenings at both 6pm and 7.45pm.

Admission is free.

This recently-released documentary film throws light on how bankers, lawyers and accountants set up a web of offshore jurisdictions, which captured wealth from across the globe and funnelled it into the City of London.

Today, up to half of global offshore wealth may be in British offshore jurisdictions.

Britain and its offshore jurisdictions are the largest global players in the world of international finance.

How did this come about, and what impact does it have on the world today? This is what the Spider’s Web sets out to investigate.

It argues that real power lies not in our democratic institutions but rather in the hands of the wealthy and influential few.
