l Loved by critics and audiences alike, Maiden is the riveting inspirational story of how Tracy Edwards became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World race in 1989.

Male competitors thought an all-women crew would never make it; the chauvinistic yachting press took bets on her failure; and potential sponsors rejected her, fearing they would die at sea and generate bad publicity. Determined and resourceful, Tracy refused to give up. She remortgaged her home and bought a secondhand boat, putting everything on the line to ensure the team made it to the start line.

l The Vienna State Opera presents Richard Wagenr’s Romantic opera Lohengrin.

When Elsa is called to defend herself, she relates a dream of a knight in shining armor who will save her. The herald calls for the defender, but only when Elsa prays does the knight appear, magically drawn in a boat by a swan. He betroths himself to her on condition that she never ask his name or origin.

First performed in 1850 under Franz Liszt, the opera contains well-known elements of the saga of the saviour sent out by the Grail, the ban on asking the forbidden question and the dark world of the sorceress Ortrud.
