An appeal was made this week for teams to take part in the Children’s Centre’s charity fundraiser, Race the Sun 2018.

In the relay running race, teams have to start at sunrise and finish before sunset.

The run covers the 100 miles of Raad ny Foillan, the island’s coastal footpath, which goes around the whole island.

The event is open to teams of up to 10 people who each run one of the 10 sections which can vary in length from 6.5 miles to 12 miles.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning fastest team, the team finishing closest to sunset and the fastest time set on each leg.

The evening will end with a sunset supper at the Marine Hotel in Peel.

It is being held on Saturday, May 19.

Over the nine years that it has been held, about 1,500 people have taken part, generating more than £100,000 for the charity.

Finance sector company Knox House Trust is to back this year’s event.

Anthony Page, managing director of Knox House Trust, said: ’We are delighted to support such a long established charity. Race the Sun is a fantastic event which really involves the community and we are proud to be supporting them in a way that will impact The Children’s Centre’s charitable services.’

Lisa Motley, fundraising team leader at the Children’s Centre, said: ’We have lots of teams entered but without this wonderful support it would be difficult to run this type of challenge event. One hundred per cent of the money raised goes towards the Children’s Centre charitable projects.

’I would add that as it is just over a month away teams need to get in touch as soon as possible.’
