A Scottish man’s search to reclaim his daughter’s dearly missed car in time for her wedding, has led him to the island.
Roy Henderson, who lives in Dundee, has spent months tracking down the whereabouts of ’Benson’ the Beetle, which he hopes to use as a surprise gift at his daughter’s wedding.
However, his hunt for the Volkswagen vehicle has reached a standstill after finding a connection to the Isle of Man.
Roy said: ’It was my daughter’s first car, but she sold it around five or six years ago because she was a student.
’She’s getting married in October and so I’m trying to find it to give it to her as a wedding gift.
’Paige will be really surprised to see it again, as she regrets selling it. I’ve tracked it to the Isle of Man and I’m hoping to find out if it is still there. Ideally we would be looking to buy it, but we’re happy to borrow it for the big day.’
Roy has spent six months looking for the vehicle, which had the old licence plate ’V384 LYS’ and is thought to have been made in Mexico during the mid-1990s.
He describes the search as a ’long story’, saying: ’It was sold to a man in London, who bought it for his girlfriend.
’However, they broke up and she sold the car to someone in Bournemouth, who then sold it to someone else.
’I then contacted the garage. They said that they had sold it to someone in the Isle of Man, but they could not contact them or give any more information due to privacy.
’Benson would certainly be used at the wedding, as Paige is getting married at a hotel where the reception is.
’It’ll be a great touch to the wedding and if we could keep the car we probably would. Paige has jokingly mentioned about Benson being there, so she would be overjoyed to see it!
’My speech would also be helped to as I could mention about another man in her life.
’It’s a big stab in the dark trying to find her car, but I hope it all works out.’
