The fire brigade was called out to tackle a grass fire in a field off Johnny Watterson’s Lane in Douglas on Saturday evening. Crews were called out just before 5pm and found a large area about 60 yards by 20 yards of grass and gorse blazing and spreading quickly. Two fire engines went to tackle the fire and a water bowser was taken there in addition. Firemen used hoses and beaters to extinguish the fire and stayed at the scene for an hour and a half to damp down any hot spots and prevent it from reigniting.
