Firefighters were this morning called out on an unusual mission.

Douglas-based crew were called to a farm in the Mount Rule area where a young heifer had fallen into a slurry pit.

Working with the owner of the heifer, crews managed to secure two halters and a length of rope to the animal and using the farmer’s tractor managed to pull the heifer clear.

They were there for about an hour.
