Fire crews dealt with a significant flat fire on Douglas seafront today.

And they have praised quick-thinking residents who help a neighbour with mobility problems escape from her burning third floor flat.

A investigation has identified a toaster as being the cause of the fire.

Firefighters from Douglas and Laxey were called out to Millennium Court on Queen's Promenade at just after 10.30am.

Residents evacuating the building when the fire alarm went off noticed smoke coming from a flat on the third floor.

Knowing the occupant had mobility problems, they helped her get out of the building before the fire service got there.

Crews on arrival were faced with a significant fire in the flat and the building was starting to become heavily smoked logged.

Firefighters quickly tackled the fire and checked the building to ensure all residents were out of the building.

They were at the scene for about two hours.
