Members of Douglas’s Rotary Club recently planted flowers in a popular beauty spot as it continues to fight against polio.
The global Rotary organisation has raised more than $2bn as part of the 35-year fight to eradicate the disease backed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
The Douglas branch members used a rare bright weekend to plant purple crocus bulbs at the bottom of Summerhill Glen which they did in the shape of the Rotary Club badge.
Matt Evans, who is chairman of the club’s foundation committee, which is organises events towards eradicating polio said the Douglas branch had bought 4,000 bulbs, the majority of which were shared with schools in the island.
Mr Evans said crocuses were chosen because of their purple colour which coincides with the Purple 4 Polio element of the worldwide campaign.
The club was joined by Douglas Mayor Jon Joughin.
