The speaker at the July Probus Club lunch was Neal Mellon who is chief executive officer of the Isle of Man Foodbank.
Mr Mellon explained the foodbank was initially established following research 10 years ago which showed a need in the island for such an organisation.
The foodbank went live in November 2013 and has been supporting people and families in crisis ever since.
The charity moved to new premises at Ballafletcher House in 2018 and this year they are supporting an average of 150 households every week.
support
Mr Mellon explained the process applicants have to go through to receive the support from the foodbank.
The principle was, after agreeing the support needed, the family worked with the foodbank to reach a situation when the ongoing support would not be needed.
Probus Clubs are clubs for retired or semi-retired people from all walks of life and may include business or professional people.
