Culture Vannin is calling on individuals, groups and community organisations to get involved with Blein ny Gaelgey – the Year of the Manx Language.
Up to £100 is available to help cover costs for people wishing to host their own Manx language event.
The funding can be used to hire a hall or indoor venue to celebrate all things ‘Gaelg’ – Manx.
Dr Breesha Maddrell, director of Culture Vannin, said: ‘At Culture Vannin we know that the most inspiring ways to bring a language to life often begin in local community halls, classrooms and shared spaces.
‘That’s why we wanted to offer Mini Manx Venue Grants – to give people the chance to turn creative, grassroots ideas into real events that celebrate the Manx language.
‘We hope these grants will empower individuals and groups right across the Isle of Man to make 2026 a year where the language is heard in every corner of the island.’
There is no pressure to make an event entirely Manx, organisers say. This could include using a few phrases, displaying bilingual signs, or even playing Manx songs in the background.
Those who are new to the language are also encouraged to take part, with Culture Vannin offering support and guidance.
The opportunities for events are wide-ranging, with the team in St John’s already suggesting ideas for those keen to celebrate the island’s heritage.
Possible activities include hosting a bake sale, running a bilingual workshop or delivering an educational talk.
Tiffany Kerruish, Culture Vannin’s co-ordinator for the Year of the Manx Language, said: ‘Some of the best ideas come from people who are learning.
‘We know that even with plenty of enthusiasm, ideas need support – and that’s where we hope these new grants will help turn ideas into events.
‘We’ve also created a “Get Involved” section on www.yearofmanx.im, packed with tips and advice.’
