While their more famous counterparts grappled with socially distanced orchestras and no crowds, the Manx Last Night of the Proms will take place with all its usual flag-waving pomp and splendour next weekend.

Led by Manx Concert Brass and the Manx Youth Band, both celebrating milestone anniversaries of 25 and 50 years, the Last night of the Manx Proms will take place at the Gaiety Theatre on Saturday, September 26 from 7.30pm.

They will be joined by guest soloist Simon Fletcher and a full audience for the traditional evening of classical music and revelry which, this year, will also hear a debut performance of a new suite of music. ’Manx Tales’ is based around four movements especially written about the Isle of Man by the band’s musical adviser Derek Broadbent to mark the joint anniversaries. The concert will also include the familiar renditions of ’Last Night’ staples, such as Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem.

Tickets are £17.50 for adults, £15 for concessions and £5 for under 16s and are available from the Welcome Centre, and the Villa Marina box office on 600555 or online from villagaiety.com
