A plan for a ’glamping’ site in Port Erin has provoked several objections from residents.

The proposal, 17/00254/B by Rowany Glamping, is for 10 ’glamorous camping’ pods to go on an unused field by Rowany golf club house.

Seven letters of objection from residents outline various concerns relating to traffic, noise, smells (from a barbecue) and rubbish.

Another wrote the proposal is not environmentally friendly as it is within metres of Bradda Glen - an important national glen. Also with its exposed position and gales, nothing will grow there (as screening) and who will want to stay there out of season?

Another pointed out it will be an ’incongruous addition to a promenade already blighted by derelict hotels’.

Hugh Logan Architects wrote on behalf of Hartford Homes, which has wants to develop the field adjacent to the site, and requested a barrier be erected and a time restriction on use of the external area.

Advocates Long and Humphrey representing Collinson House wrote the proposal would be ’an unjustified departure from planning policy’.

The local authority said it would be ’useful’ if those supporting the plan wrote in.
