One of the main roads in Douglas will be closed for up to 12 hours on Sunday to allow for tree felling and a TT bridge to be removed.
The road will be closed from 6am until no later than 6pm on between its junction with Greenfield Road and St Ninians crossroad. This is to allow the bridge over Glencrutchery Road to be taken down and removed from site.
We have previously reported that the bridge will be replaced in time for the 2020 TT after it was deemed unsafe last year.
The bridge provides an access route to pedestrians from Noble’s Park to the inside of the course.
A DoI spokesman previously said: ’The current steel structure was built in the early 1980s.
’Regular inspection and maintenance has meant it has remained in use for more than 35 years, but a replacement must now be constructed to ensure the safety of the public.’
The DoI is taking advantage of this planned closure to also fell two diseased trees on the foot way in front of Douglas Borough cemetery. It is considered that both are in danger of falling if they are not removed.
Access for residents who live within the closure will be arranged by the contractors on site. There may be delays when the work reaches safety critical points in the operation.
It is anticipated that should operations go as planned that the road will reopen significantly earlier than 6pm. The length of closure is designed to accommodate unforeseen circumstances and weather conditions.
