A local writer has turned stories she made up with her young son into a series of globe-trotting children’s books.
Nina Proctor has released ’G’day Captain Jimbo’, a story of an international airline pilot who tells of his adventures whilst flying to different countries around the world.
Nina, who is from Douglas, but has lived in England and Gibraltar, created the idea when telling stories to her four-year-old son, Alex, who loved flying and travelling.
’When he was little, he used to love travelling, and he loved pilots and airports,’ said Nina, who has included Alex, now 13, in the books as the co-pilot.
’I tried to find books for him to read about travelling but it was very difficult. So instead we used to talk about what books we would like to write.’
Nina intended the books, aimed at children aged four to seven, to be informative and educational, as well as fun to read.
’It tells you all about travelling, and about Australia,’ she said.
’There are pictures of the route map, showing where the plane flew over the world. Also, there is a section about wild dolphins too, which is also encourage people to see dolphins in the wild rather than seeing them in captivity.’
Nina has written six book in the series, and hopes to have another released before Christmas.
’Each one will have a different greeting from the place where he visits, which then becomes the title of the book.
’I have written one based in the Isle of Man, and one from New Zealand, Gibraltar and a couple of others places.’
’G’day Captain Jimbo: An Australian Adventure’, published by Austin Macauley, is available from the Bridge Bookshop, Mostly Manx, Gaslight gift shop in Castletown and online from Amazon.
