Experts will be on hand at a special event designed to educate the public about pensions.

A free event will take place from 5pm to 6:15pm on Thursday, June 14, at The Sefton Hotel, Harris Promenade, Douglas.

This event is organised by UK-based professional body, the Personal Finance Society (PFS) and is open to everyone.

Attendees will gain an insight into:

The different types of pension available

The different options

How to take control of your pension and retirement planning

How to plan ahead and get yourself on track for a financially secure retirement

How to determine if you need professional advice

Keith Richards, chief executive at the PFS, said: ’As an individual it is vital to plan ahead and take ownership of our own financial future, even if the state or our employers make some provision for us. Responsible financial planning, whether self-managed or through the guidance of a professional financial adviser, is essential.

’We hope the session is useful and helps local residents to think about what they want for their retirement and how they are going to fund it. I would encourage anyone who wants to get on track for a financially secure retirement to attend.’

The Pension Matters campaign is a collaboration between the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority and the PFS and is supported by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and the Isle of Man Government.
