A government proposal to develop Knockaloe has been ditched.
The site, just south of Peel, had been earmarked for visitor and heritage attractions, an education centre and a food and drink outlet.
Last year the Department of the Environment, Food and Agriculture held public meetings and a consultation and then invited interest from organisations keen to invest in developing there.
However, after what is described as ’careful consideration’, the DEFA has ’opted not to pursue any of the proposals at present’.
Via estate agent Chrystals, the department is advertising the opportunity to rent the farm as a whole or in lots.
Knockaloe is historically significant as it housed an internment camp during the First World War. More recently, the government operated it as an experimental farm. That closed in 2010.
Last year, to incorporate visitor attractions, education, food and heritage.
The site will also continue to house the Mart and the Royal Manx Agricultural Show.
DEFA will adopt a suggestion that emerged during the consultation process and create a new pedestrian route through the farm.
