The Times published a letter from Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney on Thursday.

He wrote to correct a report in the paper, which claimed that a 99-year-old was the oldest recipient of a New Year’s honour.

Sir Richard wrote: ’His award was quite an achievement but he was not quite the oldest. You also listed Hector Duff, a 100-year-old Manxman and veteran of the North Africa and Normandy, who received an OBE for community work.’
