The Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust has announced that the Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer has agreed to become its patron.

The trust has spent more than £2.5million in the last 11 years, on healthcare and mental wellbeing projects.

This includes, most recently, funding the purchase of a £1.1million MRI scanner for Noble’s Hospital which will provide extra scanning capacity and enable a wider range of scans to be carried out on the island.

Sir John already gives his time to charitable causes as chair of The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Charity, also known as Support Our Paras.

The charity assists veterans in a number of ways, including through the purchase of bespoke wheelchairs and equipment to enable amputees to lead active lives and participate in sports; disability alterations to homes and vehicles, and support for mental health.

Sir John said: ’My work with Support Our Paras has given me an insight into how money from a trust, wisely spent, can benefit many lives.

’The Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust has an impressive history of supporting and helping to advance the island’s healthcare, going back more than 130 years.

’I am delighted at the prospect of being a part of this and helping the trust in any way that I can.’
