Some good old sibling rivalry is set to benefit a local charity.

Buchan School pupil Grenya Head and a group of friends are undertaking the same challenge Grenya’s older brother completed two years ago.

Theo Head, then 11, and his schoolmates raised £1,000 for three Manx charities by walking from Laxey beach to the top of Snaefell and back.

Grenya and Theo’s mum, Kate Head, said: ’Grenya is now also 11 and wants to beat her brother’s time but also have fun with her friends before they go off to high school.’

Grenya and her friend Kai Crookall - whose brother also walked last time - have chosen to raise funds for Isle Listen.

Kate said: ’Isle Listen has worked with King William’s College and the Buchan providing a listening service as well as a series of workshops and assemblies covering a range of topics related to emotional wellbeing.

’With several lockdowns under our belt we’ve realised that lots of people and schools will hopefully benefit from Isle Listen’s services.’

The team sets off from Laxey beach at 9.15am on June 26. Donations can be made at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sea-to-sky

Kate said: ’Grenya walked some of the way when it was Theo’s turn, to help check times and terrain, but it was only her brother’s friends who were allowed to complete the challenge. It makes it more special if no siblings are involved so she’s pleased this time Theo is banned!

’We just hope the weather will be perfect like last time.’
