There will a chance to hear the sounds of a world famous orchestra, together with a world renowned soloist, performing in the Isle of Man later this year.
The Halle Orchestra are returning to the island following their sell-out concert in 2017, and will perform at the Villa Marina on Saturday, June 20.
Led by conductor Sir Mark Elder, the famous orchestra, based in Manchester will perform music from Wagner, Beethoven and Weber, and will also feature a guest appearance from the celebrated solo cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
He will be performing his ground breaking Elgar’s ’Monumental Cello Concerto’, a piece that has seen Kanneh-Mason reach number one in the classical charts and break into the mainstream charts.
Kanneh-Mason became a rare household name in classical music after he performed live during the Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, in 2018.
He has also appeare on two occasions with the Kanneh-Mason Trio, alongside siblings Isata and Braimah Kanneh-Mason, at the Mananan International Festival of the Arts, held at the Erin Arts Centre.
Following the concert, on Sunday afternoon, members of the orchestra will take part in a family open afternoon, where school children of all ages canmeet the musicians and take part in a concert.
Prior to the concert, on Friday, June 19, the Isle of Man Arts Council will welcome music historian Arthur Reynolds to deliver its annual lecture, on the life of the composer Elgar, as an introduction to the concert. Chairman of the Isle of Man Arts Council Mrs Marlene Maska MLC said that the Isle of Man Arts Council were looking forward to welcoming the orchestra and Sheku back to the Isle of Man.
’ This is a unique opportunity to hear some of the world’s greatest classical music played by classical music’s newest superstar and one of the finest orchestras in the world,’ said Marlene.
’ We are also looking forward to inviting our own young musicians to the ’Come & Play’ afternoon, which we hope will give them lifelong memories and inspire a generation.’
Tickets for the concert go on sale tomorrow (Friday) at midday.
