Writing his latest single did not come easily to a former local musician.
Singer and songwriter Hamish Faragher finally released his latest single ’Blissness’ last week, after spending months locked away in his practice room at home writing and re-writing the song.
Hamish said that ’Blissness’ is such a personal song that he says he was ’driven mad’ trying to finish it.
’I spent months recording this single,’ said Hamish.
’I was locked away in our tiny spare room driving myself mad. It’s such a meaningful song so I didn’t want to let that feeling go and after about three months of hard work, I actually decided to delete the whole thing.
’I cleared my head a bit and then re-recorded it in the space of a week.
’I started writing it about people who don’t give themselves and others enough time or appreciation.
’I always acknowledge people I see, say hello, good morning or whatever because when someone says that to me, it makes my day.
’I didn’t realise it could become so relatable.
’Looking at the world we live in now, a quick smile and hello has doubled in value.’
Hamish currently lives in Manchester with his girlfriend Elise Norris, also from the Isle of Man.
He stayed in Manchester after spending three years studying music at the British Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) college.
Thanks to the social restrictions, Hamish was forced to entirely self-produce ’Blissness’ after the closure of all of the local recording studios.
’I did everything myself with this one,’he said.
’I did the writing, recording, mixing and mastering as I can’t get in a studio so that was the only option really.
’Now that it’s out there, I’ve actually been able to step back from it and listen from an audience perspective rather than a writer’s perspective.
’Comparing it to my previous release, a song called ’My My Lady’, I’ve been so much more experimental with my creativity.’
The artwork was created by his younger brother, Archie, who is studying for a degree in graphic design, also in Manchester.
’We really wanted to create that feeling of "bliss" through the graphic and I think it’s something we’ve accomplished,’ said Hamish.
’We’re both really proud of how it looks.’
’Blissness’ is available to buy and download on all music sharing platforms, along with his other five single releases.
