A new series of four creative writing sessions at The Hub, Thie Rosien in Port Erin gives people the opportunity to discover the many benefits of self-expression, from getting clarity on life challenges to simply having fun with words.

The sessions will take place every Thursday between 10.30am and 12.30pm From June 22 to July 13.

Sessions on creative writing have been held there before, but these will be linked, with each session building on the one before, but also each one will be self-contained, meaning people can do as many as they like.

It is essential to book in advance each time, as places are limited.

The sessions will feature creative writing exercises and activities to get people writing and are hosted by poet and workshop facilitator Janet Lees, who is trained in writing for well being and has been hosting creative writing sessions at The Hub since 2014.

’Everyone is naturally creative,’ said Janet.

’Expressing ourselves is hugely beneficial to our well being, as many studies show. The trouble is that many people are blocked from being creative, for example as the result of being discouraged at a young age.

’So often we hear people say: "I’m no good at writing", because that was what they were told at school, for instance.

’But then they try it and find themselves getting real joy from it.

’Writing is naturally a mindful activity, because when you’re doing it you are completely absorbed in it. Like mindfulness, it can have a profound effect on the way we feel and our outlook on life.’

The Hub’s co-ordinator, Janet Bridle, added: ’I am so pleased that Janet is continuing her sessions at the Hub because I always get such positive feedback from the many varied people that attend and believe me it appeals to such a wide audience.

’A lot of laughter filters out of the sessions and this never fails to raise the energy for the rest of us so I’m really looking forward to them starting up again.’

Each session is £5 per person, including tea and coffee. To find out more or to book a place, contact Janet Lees, email [email protected] or phone 470941.
