If you don’t recognise the faces, then you may find the voices of the cast of a satirical news show more than a familiar.

A host of Manx Radio presenters will host a live show of the occasional comedy news programme ’IM1 - Live’ at the Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday, February 15, from 7.30pm.

The cast will be led by Howard Caine and will feature appearances from well-known radio personalities Rhian Evans, Beth Espy, Ben Hartley, Chris Williams, Ewan Gawne and Alex Bell.

The show is a collection of satirical comedy sketches, with the sights fixed firmly on the reporting of the local news and the great and good of Manx politics.

Howard said that they decided to have a go at hosting a live show after they produced a series of similar shows for the radio.

’Alex Brindley was keen to bring some comedy back to the airwaves when he took over as programme controller to counteract the fact that the obituaries still receive some of the station’s highest ratings,’ said Howard.

’We have broadcast a few shows on the radio so far, and they usually go out during things like Christmas or Tynwald Day, but I thought it was about time we went out and did a live show, as they are always pretty good fun to do.’

’We used to have a satire show called "The Headlines Again", which featured a number of people, including the former Manx radio presenter Roy McMillan.’

’It continued for a few years until Roy left the island, and some of the team have had various ideas of bringing the show back in some format over the years.’

’The Headlines Again’ team last performed all together at the Roly Drower memorial concert, in October 2009.

’We thought that, instead of just having a rehash of the former show, we would try and have go at creating something a little different in tone,’ said Howard.

’It is just a nice excuse to poke a little bit of fun at local politics, Manx life and at Manx Radio itself.’

Tickets are £10, available from Celtic Gold, in Peel, Shakti man in Ramsey, Thompson Travel in Port Erin or GH Corletts in Douglas, or online from etickets.im/cc

Proceeds of the concert will be split between the Peel RLNI and the Friends of the Peel Centenary Centre.
