Don’t struggle getting through airport security if you are infirm or feeling unwell - get help.
That’s the message from airport bosses following concerns that patient transfer passengers were having to wait in long queues at Ronaldsway.
The issue was raised last month by Carole Male, vice chairman of Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.
But now following a meeting with Infrastructure Ray Harmer, Health Minister David Ashford and airport director Ann Reynolds, Carole has been reassured that arrangements are in place to help poorly passengers.
She said: ’Wheelchair passengers are well catered for, it’s more the walking wounded who need help so that they don’t have to stand in long queues.
’The message to these passengers is - please don’t suffer and struggle to get through the airport. Ask for help!’
Carol explained that for operational reasons, the time to ask for help is when you ring patient transfer to book your trip. You will then be fast tracked through the airport and seated at the rear of the plane.
If you forget to do this, you can still ask for help at the check-in desk.
To ensure patients can contact the patient transfer office when needed a new telephone system is planned.
Meanwhile, the Department of Infrastructure has unveiled plans to improve the security area at Ronaldsway to reduce waiting times. But the £300,000 cost has been criticised by TravelWatch.
In a Freedom of Information response, the DoI has broken down the £300,000 cost - £160,000 for two automatic tray returns, £40,000 for two boarding card readers, £30,000 for queue monitoring equipment and £70,000 for building works.
