Five cases of Covid have now been identified - including one in a primary school.
Details were given in Tynwald this afternoon by Chief Minister Howard Quayle ahead of a debate on the government’s exit strategy.
It came as two cases of unknown source were detected last night, which Mr Quayle said had given cause for concern. He said in total five cases had now been detected, including the two from last night, and one was in a school setting. All five, who come from two households, are self-isolating.Bunscoill Rhumsaa head teacher David Jenkins has written to parents to confirm that a single case of Covid had been found within the school and the children in one class had been asked to self-isolate with their families.‘The individual is well and is currently self-isolating,’ he said. ‘I am sorry to have to bring you such news but I know that everyone will do their best to pull together.’Following advice from public health the school will open tomorrow (Thursday) following a deep clean overnight.Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson said: ‘All parents have been informed and the class, their teacher, other close contacts and members of their households have been asked to self-isolate until contacted by contact tracing.’If any parents are concerned that they or their child have Covid-19 symptoms they are asked to contact 111, and the school will update parents as information becomes available. It is understood that the cases include at least one retained firefighter. There are currently 10 active cases, with one in ICU.Mr Quayle said contact tracing had worked late into the night and this morning but as things stand although there are similarities between the cases, they could not be linked with any certainty to each other or the previous outbreak. He said contact tracing will continue adding that we will ’do what we can to ensure no further onward transmission’.
