Further lifting of Covid restrictions will come in from Monday.

Two new Covid cases have been detected in the last 24 hours.

But both are from a known source and were already in self-isolation.

The total number of active cases has now dropped to 75.

Public health director Dr Henrietta Ewart said it ’continues the encouraging context we’ve seen for the last week or so.

’We are still seeing the occasional high risk contact becoming a positive case. That’s absolutely to be expected. That will carry on until it burns itself out.’

In a further easing of restrictions, indoor construction work on houses can restart on Monday (April 12) with trades being allowed to enter occupied properties again.Social distancing rules apply, face coverings must be worn and ideally, householders should be out of the house at the time or at least not in the same room. Also from Monday, estate agents and surveyors can also enter people’s homes and restrictions around viewings for vacant unoccupied properties will be removed.

And from the same day, hardware stores can reopen – with social distancing in place and face coverings strongly recommended.

Pet groomers will be able to accept animals on a drop-off and collection basis.

From this Monday, all outdoor leisure venues can reopen but the rules on outdoor gatherings still apply.

No more than 10 people can gather together and there must be social distancing in place, preferably with face coverings.

There should be no sharing of sports equipment between different households, such as golf balls for example.

Children’s play areas can all reopen from Monday but parents are urged to make every effort to keep children from different households separated.

Secondary schools will reopen to selected students from Monday as will primary schools to vulnerable children and those of essential workers.

The plan is for schools to reopen to all students from April 19.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle said: ’So, what might our next steps be after this?

’We hope that along with the return of all children to schools on Monday April 19, we may be able to remove most or even all remaining restrictions on what premises can and cannot open.

’This could mean the reopening of non-essential retail, lifestyle businesses, gyms and hospitality. A return to near-normal.’
