The government has moved to clarify coronavirus guidance to the over-70s following concern that the elderly are being told to stay indoors.
At a press conference yesterday, the Chief minister said: ’We are advising people aged 70 and over to self-isolate to prevent the possibility of being infected. More guidance will be issued shortly.’
But his message sparked alarm that the elderly were being advised not to go out, to walk their dog or go to the shops.
However today the government issued a clarification stressing the advice to the over 70s, pregnant women and those with underlying health conditions is simply to limit their social contact.
A spokesman said: ’Those aged 70 and over or pregnant or have underlying health conditions are strongly advised to take extra care to prevent the possibility of being infected. More guidance will be issued shortly.’
