Members of the public can learn how to save a life on Saturday.

Demonstrations of how to administer CPR will take place in Douglas town centre.

Manx Care’s resuscitation team will be providing demonstrations of CPR, which stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, throughout the day.

The team will be at the Strand Shopping Centre on World Restart a Heart Day, which is October 16.

They will offer members of the public the chance to have a go at learning this lifesaving procedure.

The public will also be given the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about CPR to the resuscitation team.

Figures from the British Heart Foundation suggest that nearly a third of adults in the UK would be unlikely to attempt CPR if they found someone in cardiac arrest.

This is due to a lack of knowledge of how to perform the life-saving technique.

Plus, this is in spite of the fact that it’s a ’relatively simple technique to learn’, according to Manx Care.

The resuscitation team members are normally based at Noble’s Hospital.

They are working to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and to teach others what can be done to respond quickly in an emergency.

World Restart a Heart Day is an annual day to focus on those who have survived cardiac arrest by CPR and publicised the fact that everyone can learn CPR and facilitate basic life support courses in schools and public locations.

The Resuscitation Council UK, British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross, St John Ambulance, NHS Ambulance Service and Saving Lives for Scotland work together for this.

Demonstrations will take place between 10am and 4pm at the Strand Shopping Centre in Douglas.
