The island is at the centre of a new Covid alert.

It comes after a second Steam Packet crew member tested positive for the virus and is self-isolating.The government confirmed that seven new cases have been identified.Health Minister David Ashford has insisted there is currently no indication of community cases in the island.

But a number of venues in the island have closed as a precaution.

Among them is the Manx Gymnastics Centre of Excellence on Glencrutchery Road, Douglas.

The centre has written to parents to inform them that someone who has tested positive visited the gym on Tuesday.

It wrote: ’We have been contacted by a parent who attended the gym on Tuesday evening for approximately 20 minutes at around 8pm. They have subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.

’We have taken advice from 111 this morning who at the moment have said that we can continue as normal as the risk is deemed to be low.

’We have however taken the decision to close the gym today as a precautionary measure to allow deep cleaning to take place.

’We are waiting for further advice from 111 but ask that you do not speculate further at this time.If any further action is required we will inform members as soon as we are able to.'Meanwhile, staff at PokerStars have been notified that a staff member at the King Edward Bay office has tested positive.His team are self-isolating and two areas have been deep cleaned but PokerStars said it is not closing the office or sending staff home unless they receive an instruction from government to do so.Government confirmed that after a new case of Covid-19 was detected, contact tracing team identified an additional six cases.Contact tracing has also identified a number of close contacts who have been advised to self-isolate.Ongoing investigations suggest a good understanding of the transmission chain and contact tracing will continue.'At this stage there is no need for further action by the Manx public. However, the Isle of Man Government asks that the public be extra vigilant at this time and await further information throughout the day,' the government said in a statement.The current number of active cases of Covid-19 in the island is 10.Chief Minister Howard Quayle will hold a Covid briefing at 6pm today.It is understood that a hairdressing salon in Onchan has also closed as a precaution.

And Peel Centenary Centre has closed as a precaution for 72 hours after a possible contact of a confirmed case visited the venue.

Dave McLean at the centre said: ’It’s just as a precaution. There is no reason whatsoever to believe there is any danger. We feel it’s sensible to be cautious.’

Health Minister David Ashford said: ’There are no community cases currently identified.

’All cases identified link back to being close contacts of existing cases.’

Public health defines community cases as those where the source of infection is unknown.
