A new case of Covid-19 has been detected in the island.
It follows a test on a visitor to the island who became symptomatic during their self-isolation.
The individual, who was allowed to visit here on compassionate grounds, remains in self-isolation and all members of the household where they are staying are also now self-isolating.
Chief Minister Howard Quayle said: ’This is the fifth positive test for Covid-19 in recent weeks, but thankfully each case has been detected in individuals who were already self-isolating.
’This means the virus is contained and the risk to the public is extremely low. There are no signs that Covid-19 is circulating in our community and the island remains free of the virus.
’My thanks to the individual concerned for following the rules and acting responsibly. I wish them a speedy recovery.’
The contact tracing team are identifying and speaking with anyone who may have come into close contact with the individual.
Today’s new case takes the total number of active cases of Covid-19 in the island to two.
