There will be no routine appointments at most of the island’s GP practices on Friday afternoon.
The latest training session for GPs takes place on Friday March 6 so appointments will not be available at most surgeries from late morning for the rest of the day.
Anyone who needs to see a doctor urgently should ring their surgery for an appointment with the on-call GP, although patients are advised that the appointment may not be at their own practice.
Practices will remain open during the afternoon for patients to collect test results, make future appointments and order repeat prescriptions as normal.
Several GPs may be in their surgeries on Friday, as on this occasion not all are attending the session, but at most practices family doctors will be away from 11.30am until 6pm.
