A nursing home resident is thought to be the oldest person in the island so far to test positive for coronavirus.
The 91-year-old has been moved from her nursing home to Noble’s Hospital, the government has confirmed.
She was transferred as a precaution and after assessment by clinicians, has been admitted to the inpatient Covid-19 ward.
Contact tracing is underway and the Department of Health and Social Care is supporting the management of the nursing home while staff continue to care for other residents at the facility.
Visiting is not currently allowed at nursing and care homes. Provision has been made at the facility for its residents to self-isolate comfortably, and staff have been following appropriate guidance on safety measures to prevent infection spread.
Elderly people are among the most vulnerable, and guidance on the most effective shielding measures has been circulated to residents, including the over-70s.
