The Chief Minister has announced a full border lockdown.
And he has warned that there will be deaths in the community as a result of coronavirus.
Mr Quayle said the border, already closed to non-residents, will now be closed to all new arrivals.
No commercial flights or light aircraft will be permitted to land after the last scheduled flight tomorrow (Thursday). The only exceptions will be emergency medical flights and mail flights.
Passenger sailings will also be stopped after the last Ben-my-Chree sailing which arrives at 6am on Friday.
The full travel ban will last an initial period of 21 days.
Mr Quayle said all non-essential shops must close from just before midnight tomorrow.
He also said new stricter self-isolation and social distancing rules will be enforced by £30 on-the-spot fines.Even if no one in a household has symptoms then, from the end of tomorrow (Thursday), everyone will be required to stay at home except for very limited reasons.These include shopping for basic essentials like food and medicines (but even then only infrequently), a brief period of exercise each day (running, walking or cycling on your own or with family members), providing care or help to a vulnerable person, moving under-18s between homes of separated parents and travelling to work if you absolutely can’t work from home.The number of coronavirus cases remains at 23 - but one patient has now been admitted to hospital.
Mr Quayle warned: ’We will have deaths in our community. Some will lose loved-ones, we need to brace ourselves.’
Health Minister David Ashford said there had been 305 tests back, with 23 cases confirmed with 290 further test results awaited.
