Seven new positive cases of Covid have been confirmed, taking the total number of active cases to 27.
Public health director Dr Henrietta Ewart told the coronavirus briefing today that a new case was confirmed on Saturday evening in someone who presented to Covid 111 with symptoms.
Contact tracing identified a ‘significant number of high-risk contacts relating to social activities across the New Year period,’ she said.
A number of these contacts have also had positive tests and wider contact tracing is ‘ongoing’, she told the briefing.
All current cases are likely to link back to one or the other clusters we had over Christmas and New Year.
Dr Ewart added: ‘In reality we are now at a point where we are never likely to be able to confirm that one way or other.’
Details of low risk venues are due to be released shortly. One piece of good news is that more than 90 tests of pupils and staff at St Mary’s primary school - contacts of a child who had tested positive - have all come back negative.
