Police say they’ve had reports of ’irresponsible’ teenagers breaking stay at home rules to throw parties on the island’s beaches.
’This is totally against what we as an island are trying to achieve in minimising the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus,’ said a spokesman.
’It’s not clever to try and rebel against the rules. Lives are at stake, people will die.’
New stricter self-isolation rules mean everyone must stay at home except for very limited reasons.
These include shopping for food and medicines, a brief period of exercise, providing care or help to a vulnerable person and travelling to work if you can’t work from home.
Police say people must avoid unnecessary journeys.
They said: ’We need to reduce the number of vehicles on the road for social isolation reasons but also any collisions could result in injuries and these take up hospital beds.
’Using your car just to drive around in for recreation must stop.’
It is important for people to continue to take exercise for their physical and mental health. However, exercise needs to be taken in ways that minimise person to person contact.
Take care about visiting places for exercise that could be crowded - eg popular beaches and parks.
