The strategy recommended after the health services' investigation into drink and drug problems in the Isle of Man (see link below) has revealed the priority areas for action.
These include:
â?¢ Ensuring the availability of accurate and robust data by ensuring that sharing appropriate data and information across agencies occurs both on and off the island.
â?¢ Ensuring the community has better knowledge and skills to prevent drug and alcohol problems and reduce associated harms and improving the overall health and well-being of the community.
â?¢ Promoting resilience, educate and raise awareness of the harms caused by drug and alcohol misuse by working with vulnerable children, young people and adults affected by substance misuse and ensuring availability and access to early intervention programmes.
â?¢ Reducing access to illegal substances, a reduction in alcohol and drug related crime and reviewing the legislation in relation to drug and alcohol misuse.
â?¢ Ensuring agencies respond to emerging issues such as club drugs and psychoactive substances through working collaboratively to disrupt the supply of illegal drugs.
â?¢ Review legislation in relation to drug and alcohol misuse.
â?¢ Ensuring treatment and rehabilitation services meet the needs of the population.
â?¢ Improving housing outcomes for people in recovery and improving employment and training outcomes for people in recovery, this will include reviewing the existing treatment and rehabilitation system by using an evidence-based approach.
â?¢ Auditing and reviewing treatment and rehabilitation pathways and services.
â?¢ Ensuring all relevant agencies work together to enhance the chances of a sustained recovery.
