The Manx government says it is considering ’contingency scenarios’ over the impact of the coronavirus on this year’s TT.

But the Department for Enterprise said the risk remains low and preparations for the TT2020 are going to schedule.

To date, 10 people in the island have been tested for the COVID-19 but there have been no confirmed cases.

There have been 13 confirmed cases in the UK and 229 in Italy. Globally there have been 80,239 cases confirmed, with 2,666 death in China and 34 outside China.

In a statement the DfE said the government is ’carefully monitoring’ the island’s position regarding COVID-19 - and a cross-government working group has been established to regularly review the changing situation.

It said: ’While the threat to the public in the Isle of Man remains low, a number of future contingency scenarios are being considered. This is usual practice and is in line with the World Health Organisation advice for preparations in case of a pandemic.

’The risk is low and preparations for this year’s TT remain on schedule. Work will continue as usual in order to ensure another successful TT.’

It added: ’The department, in partnership with government and in line with experts in the UK, will continue to monitor the situation.’
