The first walk-in Covid-19 vaccination clinic proved to be a massive success.
On the first day of vaccinations for 16- and 17 year-olds at the Chester Street hub, a total of 339 teenagers turned up to be vaccinated.
The second session for this cohort is being held today (Tuesday) between 2.30pm and 4pm, and a similar turnout is expected.
Those wishing to attend must have registered via 111 in advance.
In line with advice from the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), those attending will only receive one jab.
Under the latest roll-out only those who live with an immunosuppressed person, are clinically vulnerable themselves, or are within three months of turning 18 will be offered a second dose appointment to be given as part of the adult vaccination programme.
Many hoped that this opportunity would mean an end to isolation for teenagers upon their return from holidays.
However, the travel pathways will remain as they are for this age group, including those who have had one dose of vaccine.
This means they will have to enter either via the ’test to release’ pathway - as long as they have travelled within the Common Travel Area or a green list country in 10 days before arrival in the island - or the ’test and isolation’ pathway - for those who have been to an amber list country.
Tests are free of charge for children and young people, however for those over the age of 17, pathway two costs £30 per traveller.
As a result, the young people who have been vaccinated both last weekend and today are not exempt from border restrictions as originally hoped.
