One of the most iconic voices in UK soul and pop music is to make her island debut this weekend.
Heather Small will take to the Gaiety Theatre stage on Sunday evening, April 29 to perform a concert of both her solo greatest hits and those with her previous group, M-People.
She is touring in support of her latest release, Orchestral Greatest Hits, released next month, which features re-workings of some of her most famous songs.
Heather has been one of the most ever-present of voices in UK popular music since the early nineties, when she teamed up with the early dance producer Mike Pickering to form the pop band M-People.
They scored a number of chart hits with their easy-listening soul-inspired tunes ’How Can I Love You More’, ’One night in Heaven’, ’Moving On Up’ and ’Sight For Sore Eyes’, before the balladic ’Search for a Hero’ became their most identifiable song to date.
After splitting with M-People in 2000, Heather went on to score a further string of solo hits with the anthemic ’Proud’, and also hit the top of the charts as part of a multi-voiced version of the Lou Reed classic ’Perfect Day’.
Support for the concert comes from former X-Factor contestant Sam Lavery.
She took part in the TV talent show during series 13 in 2016, eventually finishing 7th.
Sam is releasing her new single ’For the Night’, to coincide with the tour, and has said she plans to release two more songs within the next couple of months.
Tickets for the Heather Small concert are £28.50, and are available from the Welcome Centre, the Villa Gaiety box office, on 600555, and online from villagaiety.com
