Port St Mary is the destination for this weekend’s beach cleaning volunteer session for Beach Buddies, on Sunday, March 20, starting at 10.30am.

The meeting point is outside the commissioners’ office at Chapel Beach.

Every single beach cleaning session this year has seen new volunteers turn up.

Founder Bill Dale said: ‘On one occasion we had 17 new volunteers, and the minimum has been four, and the average number of volunteers at each session is more than 50 which is really encouraging.

‘In particular we have seen lots of families joining in for the first time – and virtually all of them have become regular volunteers at our Sunday sessions.

‘This year we have also given out a large number of free litterpickers, so that people can carry out their own clean-ups, not just on beaches but close to their own homes.’
